Use the following process to successfully register your limited partnership in the District. The forms to register a limited partnership in the District of Columbia can be downloaded from the Corporations Division of the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Forms to register a foreign limited partnership (currently registered outside the District of Columbia) can also be downloaded.

Domestic
  1. File articles of incorporation in DC, both nonprofit and for profit. Follow the instruction sheet for Articles of Incorporation. Many corporations work with an attorney to develop the Articles of Incorporation. See a sample Articles of Incorporation (For Profit). See a sample Articles of Incorporation (Nonprofit).

  2. Choose a registered agent, a person who will serve as the point of contact between your business and DC, and complete the Written Consent to Act as Registered Agent.

  3. Submit the forms and fee to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002.
Foreign
  1. Follow the instruction sheet for the Application for Certificate of Authority (Out of Country) to register an out of country foreign corporation (both nonprofit and for profit) in DC. See a sample Application for Certificate of Authority of Foreign For-profit Corporation.

  2. Follow the instruction sheet for the Application for Certificate of Authority (In Country) to register an in country foreign corporation (both nonprofit and for profit) in DC. See a sample Application for Certificate of Authority of Foreign For-profit Corporation.

  3. Choose a registered agent, a person who will serve as the point of contact between your business and DC, and complete the Written Consent to Act as Registered Agent.

  4. Attach a recently dated Certificate of Good Standing from the jurisdiction under which the corporation is organized.

  5. Submit the forms and fee to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002.
