1. DMPED Offers IRB Seminar Series
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) presents Financing Tools for Emerging Development Opportunities in a New Era. 2. LEDC Offers Finance Classes in Spanish and English
The Latino Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) has announced two new classes on money management.
Title: Money Management (in Spanish)

Description: Money getting tight? Come learn with us how to better manage your finances to achieve your goals! Learn the importance of saving, how to build and maintain good credit, how to use banking services, and how to budget.

Title: Tax, Payroll and QuickBooks Workshop

Description: Are you a small business owner with questions about employment taxes? Attend a free workshop taught by professionals in the fields of accounting and payroll management. Topics will include basic payroll tax liabilities and obligations, how to determine if a person should be an employee or contract worker (1099), specifics on types of taxes and percentages, quarterly and annual reports associated with payroll, and self employment taxes. The workshop will also cover the small business accounting software QuickBooks.

3. LEDC Launches Campaign to Promote Local Businesses
The Latino Economic Development Corporation's new business alliance, DC Area Local Business Alliance (DC-ALBA), is partnering with the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) to launch a Think Local First campaign here in DC and create the DC BALLE network.
These marketing campaigns are a critical piece of a sustainable community development strategy, helping to promote economic stability, job growth, and entrepreneurial vigor by nurturing and promoting a wide diversity of locally owned businesses.

4. DC Bar Pro Bono Promotes Board Meeting Class for Nonprofits
The DC Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring a best practices seminar on conducting an effective board meeting. The seminar will discuss what you should do to help your directors meet their legal obligations, including determining which issues the board should consider as part of their duties; how the organization can provide the appropriate information for directors to comply with their duties; and how to conduct the meetings in a legal and effective manner. The seminar will be presented by Vicky Beasley, corporate attorney with Patton Boggs and a member of two DC nonprofit boards.
This session will be cosponsored by the Enhanced Business Information Center (e-BIC) and held on Monday, December 4 from 6:30 to 8 pm at the e-BIC training center in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library at 901 G Street, NW.
