1. National Women's Business Center Announces 13-Week Startup Program National Women's Business Center (NWBC) announces its next series of 13 classes for entrepreneurs. Up and Running is created to educate and inform the new or prospective business owner. Participants will receive essential business know-how through this comprehensive course taught by successful business owners or small business professionals. These instructors will help participants identify pitfalls common to new businesses, thereby minimizing risks and maximizing chances of success. Class members are also guided by NWBC staff members who are able to provide further resources to understanding business ownership issues above and beyond the course. The series begins Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 6 pm. Visit NWBC. 2. NCRC McMillan Sand Filtration Plant Solicitation Released National Capital Revitalization Corporation (NCRC) has announced the release of their public solicitation for a land development partner for the 25-acre McMillan Sand Filtration Plant. The solicitation, which is available online, describes NCRC's search for an accomplished land development team who will conduct land-use planning and analysis to determine development feasibility. The site, which once served as the District's water purification system, will require detailed studies for stabilization. Redevelopment of the site will be challenging-the site contains 2,100 manholes, 20 deteriorating, un-reinforced concrete filter cells, twenty above-ground storage bins and four regulator houses. NCRC is seeking a team with extensive land development experience. Open space, mixed income housing, retail and commercial developments are all possible development options. This solicitation includes a mandate for LSDBE equity participation and procurement opportunities, a policy which NCRC will maintain throughout all phases of the development project. NCRC also anticipates associated capacity building initiatives for local, small businesses. If you have any questions about the solicitation or the development, please call (202) 467-1065 or contact via email. Visit NCRC. 3.
