Learn About Loans and Grants

  • Who provides the most loans for small businesses in the DC area?
    The Washington, DC Office of the Small Business Administration posts a lender's ranking sheet that lists all of the banks in the metropolitan area and ranks them by the number of SBA guaranteed loans.
  • What grants are available and what businesses can apply?
    Grants are typically for nonprofit businesses. The federal government also provides focused grants for for-profit businesses in specific industries where it is looking to spark innovation, such as defense and homeland security. For more information, visit the following:

      DC's Office of Partnerships and Grants Development (OPGD)
      offers the Grants Information Data System (GIDS)-a database of current city, federal and foundation grant opportunities available to DC-area nonprofits and community-based organizations. Also, be sure to sign up for their OPGD Funding Alert.


      Visit grants.gov, the access point for over 1,000 grant programs offered by all federal grant-making agencies.
